The quick 5-minute everyday routine
The "perfect" 10-step routine you see on social media has one problem: nobody sticks with it past two weeks. This is the version that actually sticks, because it fits into the real time you have in the morning — 5 minutes, 4 steps, one product per step.
Step 1: Cleanse (60 seconds)
A gentle cleanser removes what built up overnight without leaving skin tight — that matters more than any trendy ingredient, because skin left dry by the cleanser will reject everything you put on it afterward.
The CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser is the base of this step: no harsh sulfates, with ceramides that help maintain skin's barrier instead of stripping it.
Step 2: Protect from the sun (30 seconds)
This is the step people skip most and the one that shows the most over the years — not out of vanity, but because accumulated sun damage is the number-one cause of visible skin aging, ahead of any other factor.
The La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Milk SPF 60 applies quickly and doesn't leave a greasy feel — the "I don't have time" excuse for this step doesn't hold up with a formula that absorbs in seconds.
Step 3: Define in one gesture (90 seconds)
Fixed brows and voluminous lashes give an "awake face" effect without needing a full makeup routine on top.
The NYX The Brow Glue combs and fixes brows in one pass, and the Maybelline Sky High adds volume to lashes without clumping. Both products together take under 2 minutes to apply.
Step 4: Finish the lips (15 seconds)
A touch of shiny color closes out the routine without needing lining or precision — apply it straight from the wand, mirror or no mirror.
The e.l.f. Glow Reviver Lip Oil gives color adapted to each person's natural tone, with a glossy rather than matte finish.
If you want to add an extra step without breaking the 5 minutes
This 4-step routine is the base — but a few products add real value without adding more than a minute:
- Before the cleanser, a concealer: the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind covers dark circles in 15 seconds with a sponge-tip applicator, no extra brushes needed.
- Between cleanser and sunscreen, a serum: the CeraVe Hyaluronic Acid Serum adds deep hydration if your skin is especially dry, or The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% if your skin is combination to oily and you want to refine pores instead of adding more hydration.
- At night, a lip treatment: the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask isn't for this morning routine, but it repairs lips while you sleep — a good nighttime complement to step 4.
- To reapply during the day: the Burt's Bees Lip Balm is the untinted balm you carry in your bag to reapply whenever, without relying on the tinted oil from step 4.
- Before heading out, frizz control: the Garnier Fructis Anti-Frizz Serum is a couple extra drops before styling, if your hair frizzes with humidity.
If your skin is dry year-round, you can also swap any generic moisturizer for the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream as a final step before heading out.
Why this routine and not a longer one
Every step in this routine solves a real, visible problem (dry skin, sun damage, tired-looking face, dry lips) — it isn't designed to treat acne, dark spots, or specific wrinkles, which need active ingredients and a longer, more personalized routine. If your skin has a specific need, this is the starting point to build treatments on top of, not a replacement for them.

Frequently asked questions
In what order do the steps go? Cleanser first, always. Then sunscreen. Makeup (brows and lashes) goes over already-protected skin, and lips go last since that step is least sensitive to order.
Does this routine work at night too? Sunscreen doesn't make sense at night — for a nighttime routine, step 1 (cleansing) still applies, but you can skip steps 2 through 4 unless you want to keep some color on.
